The Department of Public Works is responsible for overseeing the Streets Department and the Parks Department. It currently holds 9 full-time positions, and 6 part time seasonal employees. The DPW Administration office at City Hall consists of the Operations Manager and Administrative Assistant who are available to provide helpful information and assistance to Elkhorn residents as well as the public. The Building Inspection Department is also located at the DPW Office. There are 7 field operation personnel who are based out of the DPW Garage.
The responsibilities of the Department of Public Works includes the maintenance of the City's streets, parks, storm water facilities, building and ground, and fleet maintenance. The DPW Department provides brush collection and chipping services and oversees the leaf collection, solid waste and recycling contractor.
Emergency services are also provided such as snow and ice control, sewer main breaks, and the collection of damaged tree limbs from windstorms. Maintenance of the parks and boulevards are high priority on the DPW Department's work schedule throughout the year. The DPW Administration office is located at City Hall, 9 S. Broad Street.
